Andreas Langenohl studied sociology and Slavic linguistics and received his doctorate and habilitation degrees in sociology from Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. He has studied the interrelations of collective memory and democratic consolidation in the context of post-Soviet Russia and Eastern Europe. Apart form that, his work also covers modernization theory and the theory of modernity, processes of cultural transnationalization, the epistemologiy of the social sciences, and the sociology of finance. From 2003 to 2008 he directed the research project ‘The Market-Time of Globalization’ at the Collaborative Center 434 ‘Cultures of Memory’ at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. Since 2007 he directs the research group ‘Idioms of Social Analysis’, part of the Center of Excellence ‘Cultural Foundations of Integration’ at the University of Konstanz.
