Carles Prado-Fonts. BA, Translation and Interpreting, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (1998); MA, Contemporary Chinese Cultural Studies, University of Westminster (2001); Ph.D., Translation Studies, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (2005). He has also studied at the Beijing Language and Culture University and the University of California, Los Angeles.

His Ph.D. dissertation —Embodying Translation in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature (1908-1934 and 1979-1999): A Methodological Use of the Conception of Translation as a Site— explored the role of translators in cross-cultural representations and in the birth of modern Chinese literature. He works on the concept of alienation and the narrative of return in Chinese and Sinophone literature of the XXth century and he is interested in a range of comparative concepts such as translation, globalization, otherness, recognition and legitimacy.

He currently teaches in the Department of Arts and Humanities of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain). He is also a regular visiting lecturer at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
